About the lecture:

"No Human Being can Exist: Palestine and the Culture of Denial"

Some people have cherished—and even continue to cherish—the image of Israel as a shining example of progressive democratic idealism.  The projection of this positive image has been a key element of a broader culture of denial that has helped to sustain the dispossession of Palestinians.  This talk will explore the culture of liberal denial and its remarkable afterlife in the context of the genocide now taking place in Gaza.

About Professor Makdisi:

Saree Makdisi is Professor of English and Comparative Literature at UCLA and co-host of the Makdisi Street Podcast.  His most recent book is Tolerance is a Wasteland: Palestine and the Culture of Denial (California, 2022).
